That Penalty fares sign
A number of people have expressed concern about the brightly coloured penalty fares sign that has been erectedon the road bridge at Oldfield Park on the Bristol boundside. It is red and yellow and black and seems inappropriate and garish.
Having contached BANES planning department I am told "I can confirm that this sign is excluded from control and has deemed consent so therefore it does not require the benefit of Advertisement Consent". However a request will be made to FGW to resite the sign.
By the way...how many of you have used the new ticket machine?.
How many of you have boarded trains without a ticket?
I found it interesting that the South West trains guard is still willing to sell tickets on board and on the platform at BTM, even though the ticket office at Oldfield Park was open.

Conductors can still sell tickets, they just have to give you a warning like the police do on the telly. You know - you don't have to say anything, but anything you do say etc. etc. But more along the lines of 'If an inspector caught you without a ticket it'd cost you'. None of the traincrew are interested in the PF system as it means that they can't earn commission so at the moment you should be OK - unless a PF Inspector pops up, of course....
Then you're nicked!
They might still sell you a ticket but they aren't allowed to give you a discount and may stick to the only selling a single rule.
Personally, I've not used the ticket machine and will not do so while the friendly chap in the ticket booth is on duty. If I had to travel when he wasn't there, then I'd use it.
I cannot understand people using the machine when there is a HUMAN BEING there to deal with their transaction - can't they see that, by using the machine, they're quite possibly going to cost someone his job?!?
