Current state of service
Its been a while since I've needed to post. Anyone got any comments on the current state of the service?
The experience of a rail traveller attempting to commute between Oldfield Park and Bristol Temple Meads using the service provided by First Great Western

Yep, It's still rubbish.
I'm 20-30 minutes late to Cardiff 2 or 3 times a week.
I've also had a letter from the DfT saying that whilst the majority of Saver fares and Weekly and Monthly season tickets are protected to only inflation +1% rises, we in the SW have experienced 13% rises, so that we can subsidise travel elsewhere in the country.
Or at least words to that effect. I'll post updates on my on-going battle with the DfT on my blog (click on my name).
Friday trip home from Temple Meads was more amusing than usual. The 1722 never made it out as the lights would not work (it was one of those secondhand in need of repair carriages stolen from PennineExpress). We spent 15 to 20 minutes while they tried to fix them jumping on and off the train with conflicting information as to what was happening and the station announcer apologising as First Great Western had "changed their minds" about what to do. Eventually made it out on another 2 carriage train that should have been going to Weymouth and arrived in Bath 20 minutes late.
This morning the 0822 from Bath arrived 10 minutes late with only 2 carriages, leaving people at Oldfield Park and Keynsham unable to get on the crowded train. The service seems to me to be back to is lousiest worst!
My particular gripe is the routine delays to the 8.47 from Bath to Bristol. This is supposed to arrive at 9.04, dovetailing nicely with the free bus service to Bristol University. In practice, it is almost always late, either delaying the 8.56 service behind it (as last Friday 20th) or running behind the 8.56, which is delayed because extra passengers are getting on it (as this Monday 23rd). I shall try to report further - I usually use it once or twice a week.
The 8.47 was on time today. But the 1748 Weymouth-bound train back from BTM to Bath only had 2 carriages. I estimate about 30 people had to stand as far as Bath - not unbearably crowded but not ideal.
