Monday 22nd January : Fare Strike
First Great Western seem to have backed down from their threat to fine those taking part in the fare strike today, with passengers showing the protest tickets simply being waved through the barriers at Bristol Temple Meads.

Pictures of today's protests here.
The Bath Chronicle's report here.
I wasn't working this morning, but I'm pleased that so many people took part in the protest and ensured plenty of media coverage. staff had been told to play down the protest and avoid confrontation by turning a blind eye to those refusing to show a ticket. This avoided any heated scenes that would ensure bad publicity for the Company. But what about those who DID pay - including season ticket holders. Perhaps they should now be claiming back their morning fare in protest against the fact that others were allowed to travel free?
Also good that Bob Crow of the RMT Union is putting his weight behind the protest. Now there is a powerful man with a lot of clout who likes a good scrap and knows how to stir up a story.
