Monday 15th January
The much heralded additional 2 carriages materialised this morning and I had a good journey into work. Of course something had to give and the o8:06 service to Cardiff was cancelled at Bristol Temple Meads, stranding passengers for Filton Abbey Wood, Patchway etc.

12:08 Bath Spa to Cardiff : Cancelled
14:04 BTM to Westbury(14:18 at Oldfield Park) Cancelled
Both the 17:04 and 17:22 services from Bristol Temple Meads were only 2 carriages again this evening, resulting in another unacceptably overcrowded journey home.
Thanks to Virginia for commenting that "Not everyone was able to get on the 1722 at Temple Meads, which was also trying to accommodate Bath-bound passengers who'd hoped to be on the delayed 1700 train. "
In her letter to Don Foster(below) Alison Forster of First Great Western has stated that these services have been increased to 3 and 4 carriages respectively. I will be writing to Don Foster at the end of the week to point out that he is being lied to.

We've started a new section on thisisbath covering rail (and road) commuting issues. There's a link to this blog.

The 0731 was formed of two class 143 units today. 2x2carriages from Frome to Bristol. It should have been planned as such in the first place. However, unless the fleet reliability is improved, trains made up of more than one unit will always have one removed in order to save the cancellation of the failed service. So although it is planned to now be 4 cars, don't be surprised if only two turn up on occasion. The service is only planned to have 4 cars as far as Bristol and then two cars are taken off to form the Weston service leaving the other two to continue to Cardiff. This did happen this morning and the service continued as the 0754. It wasn't cancelled. I can't see an 0806 in the timetable?
Not sure if this link has been on this blog yet, but why cant FGW just lease back some of the 158 (x8) and 153 (x4) units that are in store at Eastleigh Depot near Southampton??? (pic: http://creechcrusader.fotopic.net/p37539420.html) Answer: Coz they'm tight and couldnt give a t*ss about us commuters.
The 1704 ex Bristol to Weymouth - formed of 2 single car class 153 units - was reduced to 1 coach forward from Westbury to Weymouth, as one of the units was despatched to the sidings. Passengers were still standing.
