What's the point of remonstrating with staff? I work for FGW and I know that several conductors have been seriously verbally abused recently and now dread working these trains. Yes, the service since December is shameful. The timetable does not supply the required trains at the right time and the reliability of the trains is simply awful. If a train fails then the first choice is to run the service with less carriages, the second is to cancel it. The conductor does not have a say in the rolling stock supply - he is given a job and works whatever train is supplied. Station and train staff don't receive ANY information from FGW about why these problems have occurred and what is going to be done. We get our information from rumours, the local media and trainspotters. You have more access to FGW management than we do so please complain to them and don't vent your anger and frustration on the staff. Although it is understandable, it won't do either of us any good as there is nothing we can do to help. I can assure you, though, that our desires our exactly the same as yours. We want to provide a reliable and comfortable service that we can be proud of. We are extremely disappointed by the failure of FGW to deliver the initial promise and hope that the level of your complaints to FGW and to your MP will somehow stop the unprecedented spiral into chaos that we are experiencing. You may be able to help - we can't. You may be interested to know that in the first week of the new timetable customer services received over 2,500 complaints. Even over Christmas there were 1,800 complaints and last week 2,100. Good luck with your campaign, but direct it effectively.
